Movistar Plus+ once again becomes the leading force in Spanish audiovisual production with its prominent presence at the 73rd edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival, which will take place from September 19 to 27, 2025. The platform will premiere four original productions worldwide in different sections of the festival, reaffirming its commitment to quality cinema, Spanish talent, and stories that connect with audiences.
In the Official Competition Section, Alberto Rodríguez returns to the festival with “Los Tigres,” a human thriller produced by Kowalski Films, Feelgood Media, Mazagón Films AIE, and Le Pacte for Movistar Plus+, distributed by Buena Vista International. Scheduled for theatrical release on October 31, the film tells the story of Antonio, an exceptional diver known as “the Tiger,” and his sister Estrella. Both make a living from their work at sea until an accident and the discovery of a stash of cocaine in an oil tanker confront them with a moral and economic dilemma. Starring Antonio de la Torre, Bárbara Lennie, and Joaquín Núñez, the film explores family bonds, precariousness, and the temptation of easy money.
In the Official Section out of competition, two original titles will be showcased. The first is the series “Anatomía de un instante,” also directed by Alberto Rodríguez, written by Rafael Cobos and Fran Araújo, produced alongside DLO Producciones and ARTE France, and based on the acclaimed book by Javier Cercas. The series revisits the failed coup d’état of February 23, 1981, through the figures of Adolfo Suárez, Santiago Carrillo, and Gutiérrez Mellado, portrayed by Álvaro Morte, Eduard Fernández, and Manolo Solo, respectively. Featuring a cast that includes Miki Esparbé, Pedro Casablanc, and Alejandra Onieva, the series offers a deep analysis of the moment that defined contemporary Spanish democracy.
The second title in this section is “Flores para Antonio,” a documentary directed by Elena Molina and Isaki Lacuesta, which follows actress Alba Flores as she reconstructs the life and work of her father, musician Antonio Flores. The film, to be distributed in theaters by A Contracorriente Films on October 10 and later on Movistar Plus+, offers an intimate and emotional portrait of one of the most beloved figures in Spanish music, through Alba’s memories and conversations with family and friends.
Finally, in the Velódromo section, known for its large-scale screenings, “Hasta que me quede sin voz” will premiere, a documentary about Leiva, directed by Mario, Lucas, and Sepia, and produced by Blur. The film, distributed in theaters on October 24 by Sideral and later on Movistar Plus+, reveals the most vulnerable side of the Madrid-born musician, his absolute devotion to music, and the personal challenges he faces, including irreversible damage to his vocal cords that threatens his career.
This powerful lineup of premieres solidifies Movistar Plus+ as a creative driver of film and series in Spain, backing a catalog that combines established talent, new voices, and profound narratives with global reach.
