AASHISH CHANANA: “WE’RE OPTIMISTIC THAT WE’LL CATCH UP AS THINGS OPEN UP”

The CEO at Media Factory Inc comments about the current worldwide lockdown situation and the productions that the company will release very soon. He also highlights his main film “Afreen”.

Media Factory Inc is a full production studio, offering end-to-end creative video and film production services.  The company has both worked with clients on helping them meet their media production needs and created its own feature films. “All our films are being produced for Theatre as well as Digital distribution in digital platforms like Netflix,” said Aashish Chanana, CEO at Media Factory Inc to Señal News.

The production company is working on two new films right now, the thriller “Obsessions” and the film “Emily”, which deals with ‘Human Trafficking’. The current pandemic has thrown the forthcoming productions off the tracks - time-wise but we are optimistic that we will catch up as things open up. I have been having Skype meets with my writers and production teams and will be initiating ‘online casting’ shortly,” indicated.

About the current quarantine situation, Chanana opined that “even though due importance is not given to the entertainment industry - if you think of it - this lockdown situation would have been way harder if there was no Netflix or Amazon Prime or for that matter, if we had no form of entertainment and had to sit at home.”

CATALOG WITH PREMIUM PRODUCTIONS

The new title “Emily” aims to raise audience awareness of the difficult and often murky subject of global human/sex trafficking, by way of stark realism blended with riveting entertainment. “Unlike films like ‘Taken’, there are no guarantees of happy endings or neat resolutions, but unlike an average documentary on the subject, there are characters to root for, rather than simply pity,” explained the executive.

Other successful Media Factory Inc film is “Afreen”, a timely film about terror and the price of revenge. The film has won close to 50 Nominations and Awards from all over the world. “The ghastly Frankenstein of modern Islamic extremism - a bastard child of reckless Western foreign policy and terrifying religious propaganda in the Middle East - is rarely, if ever, honestly explored in filmmaking today,” declared the executive.

“The typical American film focuses squarely on the energetic violence, with little extra nuance. The typical “global festival film,” if you will, tends to focus on human angst, with little visceral impact but ‘Afreen’, on the other hand, deals in all of the above, along with some images and true stories that have rarely been shown on mainstream news and television: bombed-out cities, devastated families, merciless wartime rape, diabolical propaganda, the agonized thirst for revenge, the haunting regrets over a life torn asunder, and the glimmer of hope for change”, described.

“’Afreen’ is a unique piece with an unexpected antiheroine that boldly confronts these topics - not to mention the strange role of women in Islam - in a vivid and controversial manner that no major film studio would have dared attempt. I would consider ‘Afreen’ one of my most important and difficult projects to date,” confessed Chanana.
