The first quarter of 2021 saw Netflix and Amazon Prime Video bet strongly on movies, with the highest number of original films commissioned by the former in its history, according to new research from Ampere Analysis.
Under the terms of the agreement, new theatrical releases from Universal will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after a four-month run on the studio’s sister streaming service, Peacock.
US studio Lionsgate has hired former Amazon Prime Video executive Ryan Lowerre as President of Domestic Television and Digital Distribution. He will oversee the distribution and licensing of the company’s film and TV library.
During a virtual event, Amazon Prime Video revealed upcoming projects from its Italian office, including new original series that have been greenlighted: “The Bad Guy” and “Prisma”.
