According to Nielsen, broadcast and cable accounted for 57.6% of ad-supported viewing in 2025, compared to 42.4% for streaming. The report also notes that seven different streaming platforms ranked among the year’s top-performing assets.
Original series releases dropped from 395 in 2022 to 279 in 2024, while legacy hits like “Grey’s Anatomy” drew over two billion global viewing hours. In Q3 2023, licensed content overtook originals in viewing share across major platforms.
ITV reported £887 million in total external revenue for Q1 2025, with 95% of ITV Studios’ annual revenue already secured. Digital viewing on ITVX rose 16%, driving a 14% increase in digital advertising revenue.
Over 13% of UK consumers now stream more than four hours a day, equating to 60 full days of viewing each year. Gen Z leads in consumption, yet 62% of Gen X remain the primary payers for streaming subscriptions.
