French media conglomerate Vivendi and Italian companies Mediaset and Fininvest have agreed to end their dispute, mutually waiving all pending lawsuits and complaints.

Italy’s top commercial broadcaster said it was open to settling a long-running dispute with its second largest shareholder Vivendi, but any potential deal would have to include compensation.

The Milan Civil Court rejected Vivendi's appeal against a sentence issued by the same court last February. Now, to stop the merger between Mediaset Italia and Spain, the French can only resort to Spanish justice.

The decision, and threats from other large theater chains to do the same, were made after a remark from NBCUniversal's CEO, Jeff Shell, stating NBCUniversal would release “Trolls World Tour” on VOD services on the same day it would appear in theaters. The “Trolls World Tour” made USD 100 million in VOD revenue and USD 347 million globally in box-office revenue during its release in 2016.
