Denmark added over 500,000 new streaming subscriptions in the past year, driven by a nearly 50% surge in ad-supported services. More than 25% of households now use at least one HVOD platform, reshaping market dynamics.
Nearly 100 million U.S. subscriptions now include ads, with 75% of streaming users having tried an ad-supported plan. Ad tiers accounted for 71% of net adds across Premium SVODs over the past nine quarters.
Consumers using aggregators subscribe to nearly three more services than those who don’t, according to Hub’s 2025 report. Meanwhile, only 52% now pay for three or more major SVODs, down from 61% last year.
Over 3.7 million new streaming subscriptions were added in the Nordics over the past year, pushing the total past 23 million. Sweden alone accounted for more than 2 million of those, with ad-supported models driving over half of the regional growth.
Under the ruling, Nordvpn, Cyberghost, Surfshark, Expressvpn, and Proton must restrict access to sites illegally streaming UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and Top 14 matches, for which Canal+ holds exclusive broadcasting rights in France.
