Amazon Prime Video has appointed seasoned Mexican film and TV producer Leonardo Zimbrón for the newly created position of Head of Film for Spanish-speaking Latin America, effective January. Zimbrón has moved to Miami, where he will report to Javiera Balmaceda, Head of Local Originals for Spanish-speaking Latin America at Amazon Studios.

Most recently, Zimbrón led the scripted unit of Endemol Shine Boomdog, company he joined in 2018. With more than 20 years of experience in the industry, his film and TV credits include some huge hits in Mexico and around the world, such as “Nosotros los nobles,” “Club de Cuervos,” “Mentada de padre,” “Efectos secundarios,” “Bajo la sal,” “No eres tú soy yo,” and “Viento en contra”, among others.

The appointment of Zimbrón signals Amazon Prime Video’s ramp-up of its commitment to local production in the region. Last November, Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, announced their intentions to spend US$300 million on local production in Mexico alone over the next three years.
