AMC Networks has acquired the rights to the sophisticated, 6-part spy thriller series “Spy City,” which was produced by Leonine Studios’ production banner Odeon Fiction and Miramax TV. AMC Networks will premiere the series in the United States on its streaming service AMC+ on April 15, 2021. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group handles global sales.

The series was shot in English language with Dominic Cooper in the lead role of Fielding Scott. The international cast also features renowned actors such as Leonie Benesch, Adrian Lukis, Johanna Wokalek, and Romane Portail. Internationally acclaimed novelist William Boyd created the series and wrote all scripts, while Miguel Alexandre photographed and directed the series.

“Spy City’s” producers are Odeon Fiction’s Britta Meyermann, Mischa Hofmann and Ann-Kathrin Eicher. Dominic Cooper, William Boyd, Thomas Augsberger and Bill Block are Executive Producers, alongside with Magenta TV’s Michael Schuld, Sven Philipp, and ZDF’s Wolfgang Feindt and Annika Schmidt. The series was co-produced by German public broadcaster ZDF, Seven Stories and Wilma Film, in association with Magenta TV, and funded by FFF Bayern, Nordmedia, German Motion Picture Fund, and Czech Film Fund. It was also co-financed and executive produced by Miramax.

“Spy City” was the opening series of Munich’s Seriencamp festival 2020, premiered in Germany on Magenta TV and will have its free TV premiere in Germany on ZDF in autumn this year.

The story is centered in Berlin in 1961. A city divided into four sectors and run by four armies: Russian, French, American and British. There is no wall yet, so free passage exists between East and West. Along with four foreign armies are four foreign security organizations: the KGB, the SDECE, the CIA and MI6. Berlin is a city of spies – and traitors. Fielding Scott has been sent to Berlin by “The Club,” a clandestine division within the Secret Intelligence Service of Great Britain. His mission is to find out the source of the hemorrhage of vital security information. The Russians, it seems, know everything. Someone in Berlin is giving away all the secrets of the Western powers – American, British and French. Fielding’s is possibly the hardest job in the world: clean up Berlin, find out who the traitor is, and expose, arrest or eliminate them.
