BBC Studios is significantly expanding its global hit "Bluey" across both interactive and cinematic platforms in a strategic move to deepen audience engagement and strengthen the brand’s multi-generational appeal. The studio announced two major developments: a motion-powered family game in partnership with Nex and a feature-length theatrical film in collaboration with Walt Disney Studios and Ludo Studio, set to debut in cinemas on August 6, 2027.

The new motion-controlled game, developed by Nex for its active play system Nex Playground, transforms "Bluey" from a beloved on-screen series into an immersive living room experience. Scheduled to launch in October 2025, the game is targeted at children aged 4 and up and includes interactive mini-games based on fan-favorite episodes such as "Musical Statues," "Keepy Uppy," and "Asparagus." The product will be available through Nex’s Play Pass subscription, with full gameplay details and the official title to be announced closer to release.

David Lee, co-founder and CEO of Nex, emphasized the experiential value of the collaboration: “Through Nex Playground, we’re bringing the beloved world of 'Bluey' off the screen and into the living room, transforming favorite moments from the show into active, shared experiences.” Marina Mello, Global Director of Gaming & Interactive at BBC Studios, added, “Nex’s unique technology allows fans of all ages to quite literally ‘jump’ into the fun together... [the mini-games] are purpose-built for shared play and unforgettable moments.”

This gamified expansion follows the rapid global success of "Bluey," which has become one of the most-streamed children's properties worldwide and has earned accolades including Emmy® and BAFTA awards. Building on this momentum, BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios announced a full-length theatrical adaptation of "Bluey," scheduled for August 6, 2027. The film will mark the blue heeler’s big-screen debut and is written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm, with co-direction from Richard Jeffery. The production is led by Amber Naismith, known for hits like “Happy Feet” and “The LEGO® Movie,” and is being financed and licensed by BBC Studios with theatrical distribution through Walt Disney Studios.

The project enjoys governmental support through Australia’s Producer Offset and Screen Australia, as well as incentives from Screen Queensland. Returning voice actors Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Chilli and Bandit, ensuring continuity for fans of the series.

With more than 100 episodes and a growing presence on Disney+, the "Bluey" franchise continues to demonstrate strong cross-platform performance and brand recognition. These upcoming ventures signal a robust strategic play by BBC Studios to expand "Bluey" not just as a children’s show, but as a global entertainment brand capable of driving family engagement across gaming, streaming, theatrical, and merchandising verticals.
