Beta Cinema has confirmed that principal photography is underway on “Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf,” a sequel to the globally successful Nordic thriller “Operation Napoleon.” Filming began on September 30 on the island of Örö, located in the Archipelago Sea of Finland, and will continue across Turku, Iceland, and Hamburg through November 21, 2025.
Producer Anita Elsani emphasized the strong market validation for continuing the franchise. “The response to the first ‘Operation Napoleon’ has been truly overwhelming. The film became a genuine box office success in Iceland, and Beta Cinema sold the title to more than 40 countries worldwide, including the US (Magnolia). On top of that, it performed exceptionally well for ZDF and across SVOD platforms. This strong national and international resonance fills us with confidence and enthusiasm for the sequel.”
Alexander Klein of Splendid Film added, “For Splendid, ‘Operation Napoleon’ was one of last year’s most successful titles, outplaying major US releases in the German VOD market. We are very much looking forward to the second part, which we have developed as an original story from the ground up.”
The new installment reunites audiences with Kristin and her team as they pursue the “Tears of the Wolf,” a legendary cache of Nazi diamonds hidden during World War II. After witnessing a murder, Kristin uncovers the first clue, prompting an investigation that spans Iceland, Finland, and Germany. The journey leads to a high-stakes chase through Helsinki’s underground bunker system, culminating in a final confrontation in the Finland Archipelago. Along the way, Kristin, Steve, and Einar must decode wartime relics, lost musical compositions, and encrypted messages—all while being hunted by mercenaries and a relentless assassin.
Directed by Finnish filmmaker Jyri Kähönen (“Trackers,” “Bordertown”), the English-language thriller is written by Marteinn Thorisson, who also penned the original film. Returning cast members include Vivian Ólafsdóttir, Jack Fox, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. They are joined by Tom Weston-Jones and Laura Birn.
The sequel is produced by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein for Splendid Entertainment (Germany), Kjartan Thor Thordarson for Sagafilm (Iceland), and co-producing partners Take Two Studios and Elsani Film GmbH. The production has received support from Moin Filmfund, Business Finland, and the Icelandic Ministry of Industry and Innovation.
Sam Film will handle the theatrical release in Iceland, Splendid Film in Germany, and Beta Cinema will officially launch international sales of the sequel at the upcoming American Film Market in Los Angeles.
