Beta Cinema announced further sales on its Berlinale and EFM line-up. Andreas Dresen's acclaimed Berlinale Competition film "From Hilde, With Love" has now also sold to the UK and Ireland (Picturehouse Entertainment), adding to the deals across Europe and Australia that were announced in the last days: France (Haut et Court), Italy (Teodora), Scandinavia (Angel Films), Benelux (September Film), Portugal (Outsider), former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Czech Republic (Film Europe), Hungary (Circo) and Palace Film (Australia and New Zealand). Pandora Filmverleih will release the subtle resistance drama in the German-speaking territories in October 2024.
The company also confirmed further territories have picked up the dramedy "500 Miles": Australia & New Zealand (Kismet), Middle East (Front Row), Italy (Maestro Distribution), Benelux (September Film), Greece (Feelgood) and former Yugoslavia (Discovery). Aardwolf Films picked up worldwide Airline rights. BAFTA-winner Morgan Matthews ("X+Y," "Williams") will direct from a script by Malcolm Campbell (What Richard Did, Herself, Ackley Bridge), based on the much-loved novel Charlie and Me by Mark Lowery later in 2024. "Jojo Rabbit" 's Roman Griffin Davis will star next to Academy Award-nominated Bill Nighy ("Living," "About Time," "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel").
The market premiere for "Führer and Seducer" also led to new deals with Condor Entertainment for France, Beta Film for Bulgaria, and TFG for Greece. Deals with Spain (A Contracorriente), Portugal (Films4You), Scandinavia (Mis Label), Benelux (Dutch Film Works), Czech Republic (Donart Film), former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Japan (AT Entertainment) and Australia & New Zealand (Moving Story Entertainment) had been announced ahead of EFM. Wild Bunch will release the film in the German-speaking territories. "Führer and Seducer" is directed by German director and historian Joachim A. Lang and stars Robert Stadlober ("Summer Storm," "Das Boot") as Joseph Goebbels next to Fritz Karl ("Sisi") as Adolf Hitler.
"Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace" also had its market premiere at the EFM and additionally sold to Australia and New Zealand (Palace Films), the Czech Republic (Film Europe), and Bulgaria (Beta Film). Deals with Italy (Rai Cinema), France (Swift Productions), Spain (Twelve Oaks), Portugal (Outsider Films), and Former Yugoslavia (Discovery) had been announced prior to the market. "Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace" is directed and co-written by acclaimed director Per Fly ("Backstabbing For Beginners," "Borgen") and stars Mikael Persbrandt ("In A Better World," "Sex Education") as the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, who died in mysterious circumstances during a plane crash in 1961.
Tom Tykwer's return to cinema "The Light" has been pre-sold to Benelux (September Film), Greece (TFG), and former Yugoslavia (Discovery). In "The Light," - which stars Lars Eidinger (Berlinale Competiton entry "Dying"), Nicolette Krebitz ("AEIOU," "Wild"), and "Tala al-Deen" - Tykwer draws the portrait of a modern family between collapse and new beginnings when a Syrian born housekeeper puts their emotional world to an unexpectedly wild test. X Verleih will release "The Light" to German cinemas in October 2024.
