CPB Films and Media Musketeers Studios begin filming "A Prophet"

CPB Films and Media Musketeers Studios have moved "A Prophet" into production. The series is co-produced by UGC, Orange Studio, Entourage Series, and Savon Noir. The first day of shooting was 3rd July. The eight-part show will film in Marseille and Puglia. “Working with our partners and the creative powerhouse behind the project will enable us to bring this powerful story to the widest possible audience," Sébastien Janin, Managing Partner Media Musketeers and series producer, said. "We believe it has all the hallmarks of a huge international hit.” 

"A Prophet" has been developed by the original team, including creators and writers Abdel Raouf Dafri (Mesrine, Braquo) and Nicolas Peufaillit, as well as producer Marco Cherqui (Savages) and in agreement with the producers of the original film, Why Not Productions and Page 114. The series is directed by Enrico Maria Artale (Romulus, Django 2022). Studiocanal will handle all global sales for the show. UGC, Orange Studio, Entourage Series and Savon Noir

This new take is based on the iconic BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix, nine César-winning, and Oscar-nominated Jacques Audiard films released by Studiocanal in the UK. “A prophet, the series is a series of today: as contemporary a story as was the film in its time," Marco Cherqui, series producer, speaking on behalf of the creative team, said. "We have reimagined Malik as of African origin and, as our characters interchange and transform at the same time as society evolves, our themes remain the same.” 

The series stars in the lead roles Sami Bouajila, Ouassini Embarek, Matthieu Lucci, Nailia Harzoune, Faued Nabba, aka Kofs, and Moussa Maaskri. For his first role, Mamadou Sidibé will portray Malik El Djebenna, the “prophet.” The series is a distinct rebirth of the character Malik and his world as seen through the prism of the streets, the characters of present-day Marseille, and the crucible of Baumettes Prison.
