The Danish government has announced that, starting in 2026, DKK 125 million (US$17.5 million) will be allocated annually for a new production rebate scheme, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture. Productions filming in Denmark will be eligible for reimbursement of some production costs. All other EU countries, except Luxembourg, already have similar rebate programs in place.
“With a production rebate, we can enter the race to attract major international productions,” said Anna Porse Nielsen, director of the Producers’ Association, in a press release. She highlighted that Norway, which has attracted productions like “James Bond” and “Succession” thanks to similar incentives, serves as a key example.
Copenhagen-based Nordic production company Nordisk Film Production welcomed the news, calling it a significant milestone for the industry. “It’s a historic day. A production rebate has been a great wish from the entire film and TV industry, and we are very pleased that the government and spokespersons from the entire Danish Parliament have listened and acted quickly,” said Katrine Vogelsang, CEO of Nordisk Film Production.
