Disney+ has secured a media chronology agreement in France, allowing for a shorter release window in exchange for financial commitments to local productions. The three-year deal, signed with film and TV guild alliances BLIC, BLOC, and ARP, requires the platform to allocate 25% of its annual net turnover in France to the development of French and European cinematographic and audiovisual works.

As part of this agreement, Disney+ will also make a significant push into local film production, committing to purchasing, pre-purchasing, or financing at least 70 films over the three-year period. This commitment ensures a diverse slate of productions, spanning different genres and budget levels, further strengthening the streamer’s investment in the region’s creative industry.

In return for these investments, Disney+ will gain access to newly released films just nine months after their theatrical debut—an improvement from the previous 17-month waiting period. This agreement marks a significant shift in France’s strict media distribution rules, benefiting both the streaming platform and the local entertainment industry.
