Eccho Rights concluded a deal with Swedish public broadcaster SVT to place Medyapim drama series “Mother” in what is now a well-established Turkish drama slot on SVT2. The series will air daily at 7.30 pm, starting in the European autumn of 2020. This follows the earlier successes of Turkish series such as “The End,” “Broken Pieces” and “Brave and Beautiful” in Sweden.
“We first brought Turkish Drama to SVT in 2013 with 'The End' and it created a great buzz. Sweden was the first Western European nation to take a bet on Turkish content and we feel proud of our role in creating what is now a regular daily slot for the national broadcaster. Moreover, in the years since that first deal, more and more channels and platforms across Europe have seen the power of having Turkish drama in their schedules,” said Fredrik af Malmborg, Managing Director of Eccho Rights.
“Mother” is the story of Zeynep, a teacher who helps 7-year-old student Melek escape suffering at home, something which echoes with her own painful childhood. Taking Melek under her wing, Zeynep seeks to create the mother-daughter relationship she always longed for when they flee to Istanbul.
The series is based on the Japanese series of the same name, a highly acclaimed and award-winning production, originally created in 2010 for Nippon TV. The Medyapim remake scored huge ratings for Star TV in Turkey during the 2016-17 season.
