UK-based Quiddity, founded by BIFA and BAFTA award-winner Emily Morgan ("The Settlers"), has received a strategic investment from leading Mexico-based production services giant The Lift. This movement will support the development of Quiddity’s upcoming projects, and the companies will also collaborate together on select titles. This is The Lift’s first international investment as the company builds on the success of its film division, which it started in 2021.
NEW TEAM
Additionally, in recent months, Morgan has enhanced Quiddity’s team through the hires of Filiz-Theres Erel ("Persuasion" for Netflix) as Head of Production and Alex Hitch as Head of Development for the company.
Quiddity’s next release is "Dreamers", Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s debut, supported by BBC Film that Yellow Affair are presenting to the market in Cannes. A love story and escape movie set in an immigration removal centre, the feature focuses on a woman named Isio, played by Screen Star of Tomorrow 2023 Ronke Adékoluejo, who is caught working without papers, trapped inside Hatchworth removal centre, where she learns that finding love, friendship and freedom sometimes means doing the wrong things.
Quiddity’s upcoming projects include "Butterfly", led by Mer Film (Norway), in co-production with Zentropa (Sweden), and Nordfilm (Germany) with UK co-production funding from the UK Global Screen Fund. Written and directed by Oslo-based Itonje Søimer Guttormsen, the feature film tells the story of two sisters, living very separate lives and far-removed from their alternative upbringing in Gran Canaria. They reunite on the island following their mother’s mysterious death. The expanding development slate includes Film and TV projects from around the world, further supported by a recent award from the BBC small indie fund.
Emily Morgan, Founder of Quiddity said: “The Lift has built a truly world-class offering in a region which is both creatively and commercially exhilarating. This new strategic alliance creates a transatlantic bridge for storytelling, which is a fantastic opportunity both for us as companies and the network of creatives we each represent. I am also delighted to add further firepower to our talented team with Filiz and Alex, who are both bringing invaluable expertise and fresh perspectives to our projects and the company.”
Avelino Rodríguez, Founding Partner and CEO at The Lift, said: “This partnership is a natural extension of our work to champion Mexican storytellers and filmmakers on a global stage, and to support the rapidly growing creative explosion in the country. Emily’s impressive track record and creative passion for Latin America means that investing in Quiddity and closely collaborating is a logical next step as we look to grow our stable of incredible homegrown storytelling which can, and should, travel the world.”
