Three documentaries from Espresso Media International will make their worldwide premieres at Hot Docs 2023. Espresso are representing worldwide rights (excluding Canada) for the trio "The Man Who Stole Einstein's Brain"; "Cynara" and "Coven", which are all commissioned by Canada’s documentary Channel.

“We are over the moon that three of our incredible documentaries have been selected for Hot Docs, all of which come from powerful and boundary-pushing female directors,” says Jess Reilly, Espresso’s Head of Sales and Acquisitions. “Audiences will have their jaw on the floor during stranger-than-fiction tale, 'The Man Who Stole Einstein’s Brain', be blown-away by the story of 'Cynara' which redefines what a true crime story should be, and have their perceptions challenged in the thought-provoking yet entertaining feature, 'Coven'.”

"The Man Who Stole Einstein’s Brain" will feature in the Hot Docs Special Presentations programme. A Frequent Flyer Films production directed by Michelle Shephard and produced by Bryn Hughes and Carolyn Abraham, the film explores the saga of what happened to Einstein’s brain.

"Cynara", a second production from Frequent Flyer Films, is directed by Sherien Barsoum and executive produced by Bryn Hughes and Michelle Shephard; and produced in association with the documentary Channel. On February 19, 2011, a distraught woman calls 911, telling the dispatcher that two men broke into her house and that her daughter is not breathing. Hours later, Cynara is dead, and Cindy is the prime suspect.

"Coven" follows the journeys of three millennial women who explore what it means to identify as a witch in today’s world. The film is directed by Rama Rau and produced by Ed Barreveld of Storyline Entertainment.
