"Vaka"
Global film and TV studio Fifth Season has secured global distribution rights (excluding the Nordics) to "Vaka", a 6 x 45’ gripping dystopian thriller series from Skybound Entertainment, the multiplatform entertainment company behind mega-hit franchises "Invincible", "The Walking Dead", and hundreds of additional IP. "Vaka" stars the Emmy Award-nominated Jonas Karlsson ("The Snowman", "Harmonica", "Detaljer") and Aliette Opheim ("The Dark Heart", "The Congregation", "Caliphate") and will premiere on Prime Video in the Nordics.
"Vaka" is directed by the multi-award-winning Henrik Georgsson ("Stieg Larsson: The Man Who Played with Fire", "Sandor slash Ida"), best known for his work on the critically acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated series "The Bridge". The series is written by Brynja Björk and Pauline Wolff and created by Brynja Björk. It is produced in collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories, Sagafilm, and Skybound Entertainment.
The title centers on the survival of Stockholm’s population when an epidemic of insomnia sweeps the city, turning everyone’s lives into a waking nightmare of chaos. As the disease spreads, fates and lives collide against an unstoppable threat: a disgraced prime minister battles to control the city and his image while protecting his reckless son; a dedicated ambulance nurse risks everything to save her infected lover; and a teenage girl defends a young neighbor after his family falls victim to illness and conspiracies.
