FREMANTLE BETS ON THE NEW REALITY “THE WONDER WALL”

The powerhouse has signed a global deal with Lucid Dream Entertainment for the new and authentic reality format co-created by Nilufer Kuyel and Cagla Menderes. The series gives street art the credit and attention it deserves.

Fremantle has signed a global deal with Lucid Dream Entertainment for “The Wonder Wall”, a new and authentic reality format co-created by Nilufer Kuyel and Cagla Menderes. “The Wonder Wall” sets out to, whilst shining a light on communities, cities and urban spaces all around the world.

The feel-good title, formerly known as “The Wall Project”, received the best format pitch at BCWW Korea in 2018 and was awarded the People’s Choice award at MIPTV 2019’s International Format Competition.

“We’re excited to be working with Nilufer and Lucid Dream Entertainment on’The Wonder Wall’” said Vasha Wallace, EVP Global Acquisitions and Development, Fremantle. “The authenticity and originality of the concept is what first attracted us to the format, as well as its original look at the beauty of street art through a television lens, which is something that we haven’t seen on TV before. Unique and contemporary, this format is completely scalable and can easily be adapted into different structures to suit any broadcaster – it has the potential to be completely interactive using social media taking audience participation to a different level.”

THE BEST STREET ART

In each inspirational episode, one well-known celebrity returns to their hometown to take on the ambitious task of giving back to their local community using only street art. The town, which may have fallen behind or been neglected since the celebrity flew the nest, is in desperate need of some TLC. Joined by an experienced street artist, the celebrity chooses a space within the town to transform which has a personal meaning, such as a now dead-end street which they grew up on or an abandoned building that they used to visit as a child. Once they have chosen an area, they get to work on their unique and bold design that will not only reflect the history of the town and bring a touch of artistic beauty, but create a new positive memory that can be shared by the whole community.

As the art begins to take shape, the celebrity invites their family and old friends to join them as the audience learn all about their beloved hometown. Along the way, the celebrity arranges a street party for the locals in the ultimate celebration of community spirit. But tensions can run high, as the duo are in a race against time to finish. In an heartwarming and emotional closing ceremony, the celebrity and artist unveil their piece to the community, but will the duo complete the task and give back to a town that they hold so close to their heart?
