In times where thrillers abound and it is difficult to find something new, BBC Studios has found an interesting twist to the classic "cat and mouse" story thanks to its original production "We Hunt Together" (6x45'), which will debut in the United Kingdom in the upcoming months on UKTV’s Alibi channel.

In general terms, this is a thriller in which a couple of police officers seek to catch a pair of killers. The story follows the adventures of DI Lola Franks and DCI Jackson Mendy as they try to outsmart the murderers, despite their polar opposite outlooks on the culpability of the criminal mind.

However, "We Hunt Together" is so much more than a thriller of cops and killers. “Although this is a show about death, crime and violence, it is also a loving show at its core. It really invites us to empathize with people despite the terrible things they do, and asks what would you do if you have been through what these people have been through. I think it is a show about forgiveness more than anything else,”  Gaby Hull, the writer of the series, told Señal News.

Hull, also responsible for the miniseries "Cheat," aired on ITV in March, believes that the great innovation of this fiction is that equal time was spent in the construction of the killers and the cops characters. “Although it is a very recognizable genre piece in the sense that is a ‘cat and mouse’ thriller, it is also a relationship drama, as we have three relationships to play out: we have a twisted love story, the relationship between de cops, and of course the dynamic between the two couples. We are constantly juggling those three,”  Hull described.

That is why the writer believes that "We Hunt Together" should feel like "a fun relationship drama with a high entertainment value and exciting action". And he adds: “You see tension, but the tone is quite different from a traditional cop thriller. I hope people find it recognizable but different, because that's what it's about: giving viewers something that feels familiar but that is fresh and different”.

Eve Myles, Babou Ceesay, Dipo Ola and Hermione Corfield, among others, give life to the characters in the series, which were meticulously created and seek to generate identification with the viewers. “More traditional shows are very much about good and bad guys, and you are invited to hate these guys and root for these other guys. But we are hopefully asking people to identify on some level with every single character, and that plays into the theme of the show, which is to explore how responsible we are for our behaviours, or whether in fact our behaviour is pretty much shaped by things outside of our control,"  the writer detailed.

With a premiere scheduled for the upcoming months in its home country, "We Hunt Together" has all the necessary elements to succeed internationally. “I hope it can travel around the world. I certainly wrote it to be broadly accessible, fun and entertaining. These are characters that people will feel invested in, and their stories are exciting. The show has entertainment values and it moves at a fast pace. Hopefully, all this elements will be appealing for people from all over the world,”  Hull concluded.
