During the Göteborg Film Festival, Miso Film announced the development of two new television projects. The first is "Royal Blood", a grand historical drama set against the backdrop of the geopolitical struggles between Nordic royal houses. The second is "The Cold Song", an adaptation of Linn Ullmann's bestselling novel. Let’s take a closer look at each of these projects.

The first of Miso Film’s major announcements is the historical drama "Royal Blood" ("Blått Blod"). In a significant move, Scandi Alliance has awarded Miso Film’s ambitious six-part miniseries as the Alliance's very first flagship scripted project, after a highly competitive pitch process that saw 75 projects from producers across the Nordics. Fremantle will manage the global distribution of the series, which will delve into the tumultuous power struggles between the royal families of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden during the early 19th century, spanning from 1807 to 1814. As Europe’s great powers collide, the series will explore themes of ambition, love, betrayal, and murder in the quest for supremacy.

Alice Sommer, Head of Drama at TV2 Norway, emphasized the unique nature of "Royal Blood", noting that the series encapsulates the vision of the Scandi Alliance: “It is a story that is both epic in scope and intimate in its exploration of human ambition and struggle," commented.

Meanwhile, Jonas Allen, CEO of Miso Film, expressed the team's excitement about the project’s success in the Scandi Alliance competition, highlighting its cultural significance and its potential to captivate audiences across Scandinavia and beyond. He added: “'Royal Blood' is a spectacular untold story that delves into a pivotal historical moment that shaped Denmark, Norway, and Sweden into the nations we are today.” Written by Stephen Uhlander and Emma Broström, and created by a talented team including Monica Boracco and Katarina Launing, the series is slated to premiere in 2027.

The second announcement is Miso Film's adaptation of "The Cold Song", Linn Ullmann's bestselling novel, into a six-episode television series. This collaboration with SVT and Film i Väst is set to begin filming in the fall of 2025 along the picturesque Swedish West Coast. "The Cold Song" will explore the intricacies of family relationships through the lens of Siri, a restaurant owner, and her husband, Jon, a novelist. Their peaceful summers in Siri’s childhood home take a dark turn when a nanny, Mille, disappears during a birthday party, uncovering hidden secrets within the family.

The novel’s author, Linn Ullmann, shared her enthusiasm for the project: "'The Cold Song' is a multifaceted story about love and doubt, about secret lives and painful connections. I am delighted to follow Mikael and the entire team as they bring this story to the screen," noted. Directed by Mikael Marcimain, known for "Blackwater" and "The Hunt for a Killer", the series promises to captivate audiences with its blend of beauty and tragedy.

Finally, Christian Rank, Managing Director of Miso Film Sweden, highlighted the company’s growing slate of projects and the promotion of Christian Rank himself to his new position, reflecting Miso Film’s robust development and production activities in the region. The company has recently completed Tomas Alfredson's limited series "Faithless", which premiered on SVT, and is currently working on projects like the romantic comedy "Couples Therapy in Gagnef" and the Christmas series "Tidstjuven" ("The Time Thief").
