Dutch distributor Latin Quarter is pleased to announce the acquisition of "Chichero", a Panamanian feature film shot between Panama and Peru, directed by Arturo Montenegro ("Todos Cambiamos", "Cumpleañero") and Aaron Bromley. The deal was negotiated during Iberseries Platino Industria, reinforcing the company’s strategy of representing the most innovative contemporary Latin American cinema. The deal was closed by Juan G. Castro and Karina Moscol on behalf of Latin Quarter, alongside director Arturo Montenegro and producer Andry Barrientos of Q Films.
Produced by Q Films, "Chichero" received the Fondo Cine 2023 de Panamá and is scheduled for release in 2026. The film tells the story of Josué, a young Quechua man forced to flee the internal conflict in 1980s Peru, who arrives in Panama seeking to rebuild his life. Selling chicha and empanadas to survive, he meets Gaby, a vulnerable woman, and together they face challenges that test hope, sacrifice, and the promises made to their families.
Under the agreement negotiated with director Arturo Montenegro and producer Andry Barrientos during Iberseries Platino Industria, Latin Quarter will premiere "Chichero" in cinemas in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands in an initial stage, with the possibility to expand territories and acquire additional sales rights through future good-faith negotiations.
Juan G. Castro, founder and CEO of Latin Quarter praised the film: "Chichero' immediately captured our attention with its strength and sensitivity. It is a film that connects deeply with Latin America’s recent history, while addressing universal themes of migration, resilience, and love.
