"Stumble"
NBC has given a pilot order to "Stumble", a single-camera comedy from writers/executive producers Liz Astrof (Pivoting) and Jeff Astrof (Shining Vale) and executive producers Monica Aldama and Dana Honor. The title is a mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes and competitive world of junior college cheer. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
NBC landed the project for development late last year in a competitive situation with a put pilot commitment. It is written by veteran comedy showrunners, siblings Liz Astrof and Jeff Astrof, in their first team-up to create a series together.Liz Astrof and Jeff Astrof executive produce alongside cheerleading coach Monica Aldama, known for her appearance on the Netflix docuseries Cheer, and producer Dana Honor through her Defining Eve Productions.
This marks the second NBC comedy pilot order in just a few weeks. Earlier, news broke that Tracy Morgan will headline a single-camera comedy pilot as a disgraced former football player, with Robert Carlock, Sam Means, and Tina Fey behind the project. Popularized by "The Office," the mockumentary-style single-camera format continues to thrive, with NBC’s newcomer "St. Denis Medical" and ABC’s "Abbott Elementary" standing out as notable current examples.
