After reporting a loss of 200.000 subscribers during the first quarter of 2022, which represents its first decline in paid users in more than a decade, Netflix is in a tough spot right now. In search of solutions, Netflix decided to cancel multiple in-development shows and movies, The Wrap reported.

The most anticipated of the cancelled titles is “Bone,” an adaptation of Jeff Smith’s quest comic series. In the animation side, two other projects were also canned: “Toil and Trouble” and a “The Twits” adaptation. Separately, Netflix has axed the sequel to Will Smith action fantasy movie “Bright,” which apparently was not related to Will Smith’s assault of Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars.

The internal crisis not only generated the cancellation of many audiovisual projects, but also initiated a restructuring process that puts the positions of several company executives at risk. For instance, Netflix's Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, Phil Rynda was let go, alongside many of his staff.

According to Bloomberg, Netflix is also in the midst of restructuring its engineering department to create senior and junior roles for its employees. Given the internal upheaval, former and current Netflix employees believe that the streamer could lose some of the best creative influences on its staff – a talent drain that would surely impact development on its most popular shows and movies.

Furthermore, as announced in its recent earning call, after years of resisting advertisements on its streaming service, Netflix is apparently now open to offering lower-priced tiers with ads as another measure to overcome the bad situation. Moreover, the platform is evaluating taking stricter measures regarding password sharing.
