French television network TF1 has acquired Apple TV+’s spy thriller “Liaison”, following a deal brokered by pan-European programme distributor Newen Connect. Produced by Newen Studios’ Ringside Studio in the UK and Leonis Productions in France, the 6x60’ contemporary thriller follows two agents (played by Vincent Cassel and Eva Green), former lovers, who must work together in a post-Brexit era to counter violent international cyberattacks that threaten the United Kingdom, while facing the explosive buried secrets of their past relationship.
With an international backdrop that includes London, Paris, Brussels and Syria, “Liaison” explores how the mistakes of the past have the potential to destroy the future and combines action with an unpredictable, multi-layered plot, where espionage and political intrigue play out against a story of passionate and enduring love.
Rodolphe Buet, CEO, Newen Connect said: “‘Liaison’ has found a perfect home in France on TF1, which has a well-earned reputation for acquiring the very best U.S. studio programming. Series such CBS’s SWAT and ABC’s Will Trent are delivering great audiences (almost four million viewers for Will Trent including seven-day replay) and we are confident that ‘Liaison’ will deliver even more for its first linear broadcast.”
Sophie Leveaux, Artistic Director of Acquisitions & International Drama Development, TF1 said: “With its first-rate cast and high production standards, ‘Liaison’ will be a great addition to TF1's programming and for streaming on TF1+. We look forward to introducing our viewers to the great work of our partners Ringside Studio and Leonis Productions.”
“Liaison” was written and created by Virginie Brac (Canal+’s “Spiral”; Arte’s “Cannabis”; TF1’s “Insoupçonnable”; Netflix’s “Mortel”; OCS’ “Cheyenne & Lola”) and directed by Emmy award winner Stephen Hopkins (“24”; “House of Lies”; “The Fugitive”; and feature films including “Predator 2”; “Lost in Space”; “The Life and Death of Peter Sellers”; “Race”). The show’s cast includes Cesar-award winner Vincent Cassel (HBO’s “Westworld”; feature film “Black Swan”); Golden Globe- and Cesar-nominated Eva Green (TVNZ/BBC1’s “The Luminaries”; “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”; the upcoming “Three Musketeers” movie); Peter Mullan (“Ozark”; “Mum”; “The Lords of the Rings – The Rings of Power”); Gerard Lanvin (“Call My Agent!”); Daniel Francis (“Small Axe”); Laetitia Eido (“Fauda”); BAFTA Rising Star Award winner Bukky Bakray (“Rocks”) and Emmy award winner Thierry Fremont (“Murder in Mind”).
