Paramount Global Content Distribution confirmed the expansion of the "Couples Therapy" franchise with a brand new local adaptation of the popular Showtime documentary series with "Couples Therapy New Zealand."
“The 'Couples Therapy' format has resonated with international audiences beyond all of our expectations,” said Laura Burrell, VP, International Formats, Paramount Global Content Distribution. “We’re thrilled to see the universal themes of compassion and commitment so brilliantly displayed in the U.S. docu-series being applied to local productions with their own couples and dedicated therapists.”
"Couples Therapy New Zealand" will be produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production NZ for Warner Bros. Discovery’s BVOD platform ThreeNow and linear channel Three. The 10-part series is currently in casting and will launch early next year. "Couples Therapy" is from Sundance Award-winning filmmakers Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg and Eli Despres, who serve as executive producers. Matt Parker and Maya Seidler are producers. The series is produced by Edgeline Films for SHOWTIME and is distributed internationally along with format rights by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
This format of the series becomes the third international production of the format, following the Israeli series on KAN, now in its second season, and the Australian series that launched on Paramount+ in July 2022. Paramount Global Content Distribution has also optioned the format in various territories including the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, France and Italy. Now in its third season on SHOWTIME in the United States, the docu-series follows world-renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst Dr. Orna Guralnik as she deftly guides couples through struggles – and extraordinary breakthroughs – in real-life therapy sessions.
