Directv Latin America has acquired “Elon Musk’s Crash Course” (1x75’) from Red Arrow Studios International and will premiere the event documentary on both its linear channel and streaming platform Directv Go on September 29, 2022. Additionally, the documentary will be available on demand via DirectvGo in Mexico.

The documentary, which premiered on FX and Hulu in the United States in May, focuses on the Chief Executive of Tesla. Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has claimed since 2015 that, for Tesla, technology for self-driving cars is a “solved problem,” and made outlandish claims about autopilot capabilities. But a New York Times investigation reveals the quixotic nature of Musk’s pursuit of self-driving technology, and the tragic results. Autopilot has been a factor in several deaths and dozens of other accidents that Tesla has not publicly acknowledged. Some former Tesla employees speak out against Musk for promoting a self-driving program that they believe was perilous.

“‘The Weekly: Special Edition’ has brought new perspectives and stories to viewers around the world and ‘Elon Musk’s Crash Course’ is no exception. This acclaimed collection of event documentaries has attracted broadcast partners of the highest calibre around the world, and I’m delighted that we can now add Directv Latin America to that list,”  said Tim Gerhartz, President and Managing Director of Red Arrow Studios International

“It goes without saying that Elon Musk is one of the most talked about and fascinating characters in the world today. ‘Elon Musk’s Crash Course’ should be required viewing for followers of business, tech and celebrity as this documentary reveals Musk’s technical innovations versus his propensity to make social media fueled claims that rush technology to market, thus endangering its consumers,”  added Willard Tressel, General Manager of OnDirectv.

“Elon Musk's Crash Course” is part of Red Arrow’s “The Weekly: Special Edition,” a collection of premium standalone documentaries, produced by the New York Times and Left/Right. The collection is branded as The New York Times Presents in the United States. Red Arrow Studios International also holds international distribution rights to sister show “The Weekly” (30x27’), which won four News & Documentary Emmy Awards in 2020.

“‘Elon Musk’s Crash Course’ is an impactful and thoughtfully constructed documentary about the blurred line between corporate ambition and misleading public statements. The work that investigative journalists like The New York Times’ Cade Metz and Neal Boudette undertake is of paramount importance and we are delighted that viewers across Latin America will get to watch this important documentary,”  concluded Zasha Robles, Executive Producer and Managing Director at distributor Spiral International.
