The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have agreed to resume negotiations next week. This new meeting, which according to the AMPTP was requested by WGA, could finally end Hollywood writers’ strike.

“On Wednesday, September 13, the WGA reached out to the AMPTP and asked for a meeting to move negotiations forward. We have agreed and are working to schedule a meeting next week. Every member company of the AMPTP is committed and eager to reach a fair deal, and to working together with the WGA to end the strike,”  the AMPTP said in a statement.

“The WGA and AMPTP are in the process of scheduling a time to get back in the room,”  the WGA Negotiating Committee announced in a brief statement. The last time both parties sat down to negotiate was on August 25, when the WGA members described AMPTP’s counteroffer as “neither nothing, nor nearly enough.”

The Writers Guild of America leaders are aiming to discuss a new offer which includes adjusted details on critical issues such as compensation, minimum staffing, residual payments, and restrictions on artificial intelligence. The association, which represents around 11.500 screenwriters, is on strike since May 2, 2023

Hollywood actors represented by SAG-AFTRA joined the writers on the picket lines in July 13, resulting in dual Hollywood strikes that have halted many productions and hurt the finances of entertainment-related businesses. This was the first time that bout writers and actors have stopped work on movie and television productions since 1980. However, there are no talks yet planned to settle the actors strike.
