Most European content in VOD catalogues is non-national. TVOD (40% national content) has a higher share of national film and TV content than SVOD services (24% of national content), but the majority of EU content on VOD is non-national, according to the European Audiovisual Observatory, which has just updated its report on Film and TV content in VOD catalogues.
The report also shows that there is more European content available on TVOD than on SVOD. In fact, European content accounts for 32% of all content available on TVOD and 35% of all content of SVOD (counting films and TV seasons) but in absolute numbers more European content is available on TVOD.
On average, there are more single film titles available on VOD than single TV seasons of series. In all, there are seven times more single film titles on TVOD than single TV seasons (62.717 unique film titles versus 8 766 unique TV seasons) and 4.75 times more single film titles than TV seasons on SVOD (58.805 unique film titles versus 12.358 unique TV seasons).
The film data in this report is based on May 2021 catalogue data from JustWatch, Filmtoro, La Pantalla and Eurovod taken from 138 TVOD catalogues and 420 SVOD catalogues in 26 EU countries. The TV content data is based on JustWatch data from 307 SVOD catalogues in 19 EU countries and on 49 TVOD catalogues from 13 EU countries collected in May 2021.
