Britbox to launch the return of “Spitting Image” this month

The debut follows massive success such as record Bribox viewers, four-year record viewing numbers on ITV and 200 million digital views.

Britbox UK announced the debut of "Spitting Image" on the 11th of this month following the successful return of the show last Fall.  The title received large social media acclaim from notable commentators.  “The new Spitting Image series is funny because it follows the first rule of political satire: Be unspeakably rude to everyone," Keith Humphreys said.

“Spitting Image” has delivered record subscribers for BritBox UK, the BBC and ITV created streaming platform, and a 4.4 million audience for ITV with a one-off US Election Special, the highest Saturday night ratings at that time in four years (one of ITV’s biggest Saturday night ABC1 audiences of 2020).  Across official social media channels, “Spitting Image” content has been hugely popular with over 200 million views globally and three No. 1 trending videos on YouTube. 

The show aired earlier this year that a bespoke German language version would be made for Sky Germany “Spitting Image: The Krauts’ Edition." The debut of the first series drew the second-best channel audience figure in Finland for its time slot with a 22% of total TV audience share, also garnering millions of views on YouTube in the UK.

With new puppets of prominent figures already rolling off puppet production line including: Olivia Colman, Sajid Javid, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tom Cruise, Tom Daley, Jess Phillips, Ariana Grande, Gary Lineker, Bill Gates, Ellen DeGeneres, and Raheem Sterling, joining various puppets based on well-known public figures.

The scripts and puppets are tailored to each specific episode, showcasing the work of writers Al Murray, Bert Tyler-Moore, Bill Odenkirk, Brona C. Titley, Jason Hazeley & Nico Tatarowicz, Karl Minns, Keisha Zollar,  Laura Major, Matt Forde, Patric Verrone, among others, and a team of voice artists, which include Billy West, Debra Stephenson, Debra Wilson, Tom Stourton, Eshaan Akbar,  Indira Varma, Jess Robinson, John DiMaggio, Lewis MacLeod, Lobo Chan, Luke Kempner, Matt Forde and Phil LaMarr, with more expected to join. co-creator Roger Law returned to lead the show’s creative team.
