Netflix, known for being overprotective over its viewership metrics, released a ranking of its top 10 original movies to Bloomberg. Its action film “Extraction,” has been named the most popular Netflix original movie of all time, receiving 99 million viewers within the first four weeks after its release.
“Extraction” set an international tone with its cast members from all over the world. The film, directed by Marvel stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, was heavily promoted before its 24th April debut.
The film, starring Chris Hemsworth, tells the story of an Australian mercenary deployed to rescue the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord. Globally situated with an international cast, well promoted, and debuting 24th April into high-water pandemic viewing patterns, it’s perhaps not surprising that Extraction, directed by veteran Marvel stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, broke out on the SVOD service.
Other films that made the ranking include “Birdbox,” Spenser Confidential” with 85 million, “6 Underground” with 83 million, and “Murder Mystery” with 73 million. Movies on the lower end of the rankings include “The Irish Man” with 64 million and “Top Frontier” with 63 million.
