Netflix announced its decision to hire Dan Silver as Chief of Unscripted Content. The former Disney+ VP of non-fiction originals is set to lead the streamer's documentary films as Director of feature films.

Silver took on his most recent role at Disney last year, having previously been head of platforms and content at Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment. He will report to Lisa Nishimura, VP of independent film and documentary features.

The move comes after Silver contributed to the development of Disney+ unscripted fare including the critically acclaimed "The Imagineering Story," "Howard," "Encore," "Muppets Now," "Marvel's 616" and the upcoming "On Pointe" in his role overseeing all of the streamer's documentaries, docuseries, unscripted formats and specials.

According to unnamed sources, Silver left Disney amid a massive reorganization. His departure comes shortly after his team were moved to work under the leadership of Gary Marsh, who was appointed president & chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television following Disney’s vast restructuring of its General Entertainment Content division, under Peter Rice. Last week, approximately 100 senior execs and staffers were laid off at the Disney's TV operations as part of the overhaul, with those cuts coming just days after it was revealed that Disney Television Studios would be reduced to two teams, falling under the banners of ABC Signature and 20th Television.
