Netflix has partnered with Curious Films to produce a feature length documentary detailing the life and death of legendary software pioneer John McAfee. “'Running With The Devil: The Wild World Of John Mcafee' is a story that’s been over 10 years in the making, it’s a stranger-than-fiction story like no other, about a powerful man who lived his real life like it was a high-octane Hollywood movie – and the consequences this has for those closest to him. We are incredibly proud to be telling this extraordinary tale for the first time for Netflix," Dov Freedman, Co-Founder, Curious Films said.
With exclusive access to hundreds of hours of previously unseen, extraordinary footage of McAfee and in-depth accounts from the people who knew him best, "Running With The Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee" is the definitive story of a larger-than-life character, a man who ran for President, escaped from jail multiple times, and claimed to have hacked the world. The title is directed by Charlie Russell and executive produced by Dov Freedman, co-founders of Curious Films.
The company's other recent commissions include "Making Sense Of Cancer With Hannah Fry" for BBC Two, "Reclaiming Amy" for BBC Two, "Caroline Flack: Her Life & Death" for Channel 4, "Squad Goals 3: Dorking Til I Die," a working title for BBC Three, and "The People Vs Climate Change" for BBC iPlayer. The company is currently in production on a range of projects for broadcasters and international streamers and recently announced that TV executive Kim Shillinglaw has joined as a Non-Executive Director, as the company looks to capitalise on recent commissions and accelerates its growth over the next 12 months.
McAfee was the original computer genius gone rogue - inventor of one of the most successful (and most hated) pieces of software of all time: McAfee Anti-Virus. At his peak, McAfee was worth $100 million. But when his neighbor was murdered, he went on the run - and invited a film crew with him. He claims he is running for his life, chased by armed gunmen. McAfee and the film crew travel deep into the Belizean rainforest, across international borders, up river in the jungles of Guatemala and through the Bahamas on a boat loaded with guns, drugs and alcohol, trying to stay one step ahead of their alleged pursuers.
