Roberto Stopello, Vice President of Series for Latin America at Netflix, announced that he will step down from his Mexico City-based role after five years at the company. Stopello has plans to move back to the United States for family reasons, but he will continue to collaborate with the streaming platform as writer or showrunner on selected projects.

Prior to joining Netflix in 2018, Stopello spent over 15 years with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises in several roles, including Head Writer and Vice President of Content Development. His writing credits include Telemundo and Netflix’s “La Reina Del Sur,” and Telemundo’s telenovela “Relaciones Peligrosas” and “Ladrón de Corazones.”

Stopello was one of the great promoters of the soap opera genre on Netflix, working closely with writers and creators and looking to blend elements of classic telenovelas with drama series to create shows that resonated both on home turf and around the world. During his tenure at Netflix, Latin American hits for the streamer such as “Madre Solo Hay Do” (“Daughter From Another Mother”), “Oscuro Deseo” (“Dark Desire”) and “¿Quién mató a Sara?” (“Who Killed Sarah?”) premiered.
