Jonas Katzenstein y Stephen Wooley
Shooting in Spain, the ICEX-Invest in Spain brand to promote the attraction of foreign filming and investment in the audiovisual sector to Spain, will actively participate in Marché du Film 2024, the industry section of the Cannes Film Festival, which celebrates its 65th edition from 14 to 22 May with a programme of activities and its own space within the Cinema from Spain pavilion.
Within the framework of the event, Shooting in Spain organizes the "How to craft a world hit in Spain" panel, where it will showcase the main reasons and key services that make Spain one of the most sought-after filming destinations in the world. Specifically, it will look into the success stories of blockbusters such as "In the Grey" (directed by the famous British filmmaker Guy Ritchie) or "The Assessment" (by the French director and screenwriter Fleur Fortuné), which were supported by Spanish service production companies.
The panel, moderated by the executive director of ICEX-Invest in Spain Elisa García Grande, will feature the participation of co-producers Stephen Woolley from Number 9 Films (UK) and Jonas Katzenstein from augenscheinFilmproduktion (Germany), explaining why they decided to bring the filming of "The Assessment", a sci-fi thriller starring Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen, to Tenerife. They will be joined by Alejandro Álamo, producer of Volcano Films, responsible for assisting them during their stay in the Canary Islands. In addition, Peter Welter will explain the factors involved in a production company’s decision to return to shoot in Spain, as in the case of Fresco Film’s second collaboration with Guy Ritchie for his latest feature "In the Grey", which also obtained the sustainable production label issued by the Tenerife Film Commission.
Following the conference, which will take place on Friday 17th, Shooting in Spain is organising a networking cocktail on the terrace of the Cinema from Spain pavilion (stand A3-A5, Riviera), to which all those attending the panel are invited to participate and where they will have access to the panellists as well as other Spanish companies present at the event, which aims to boost professional relations between the participating companies.
In addition, with the aim of promoting its presence among the more than 14,000 registered professionals, Shooting in Spain will also have its own space within the Cinema from Spain pavilion, where its team will provide information about the services and advantages offered by Spain as a destination for audiovisual production, as well as about the Spain Audiovisual Bureau, a centralised info point that offers assistance to any company, either national or foreign, interested in developing audiovisual initiatives in Spain.
