FilmRise, a New York City-based film and television studio and streaming network, has announced the launch of a proprietary AI initiative designed to convert standard-definition content into high definition. This initiative will debut with the renowned true crime franchise "Forensic Files", which FilmRise distributes through a long-term arrangement with IP owner Content Partners LLC.

The company’s technology team, led by CTO Thibault Hermenault, has developed a process that combines commercially available AI tools with the expertise of its in-house editorial team, successfully upconverting thousands of hours of content to pristine HD quality. The announcement was made today by FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher.

Filmirise CEO Danny Fisher gave details about the initiative:“This new initiative embodies FilmRise’s core mission to enhance the viewer experience for both our audiences and our streaming partners. We are committed to continually improving the quality of the programs we acquire and distribute, catering to both consumer audiences and our streaming partners," stated.

Meanwhile, Scott Hemming, Executive Vice President at Content Partners praised their partners: "At Content Partners, we are committed to preserving and enhancing the legacy of iconic film and television content, and FilmRise has been an invaluable partner in that mission. Their innovative approach to AI-driven restoration ensures that 'Forensic Files' continues to captivate audiences in the best possible quality, providing an improved viewing experience while staying true to the integrity of the series. We are thrilled to see 'Forensic Files' reach new heights with this initiative and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with FilmRise," commented.

In addition to AI-assisted in-house initiatives like the one utilized for "Forensic Files", FilmRise continues to explore various methods to enhance its extensive library of 30,000 movies and TV episodes, seeking opportunities to upgrade SD content to HD. The company actively pursues collaborative distribution partnerships and exclusives, such as the project that produced a 4K version of the popular indie comedy "Party Girl" or the acquisition of the classic TV Western series "Death Valley Days" in HD.

FilmRise has remastered in HD all 12 seasons—326 episodes—of the ever-popular "Forensic Files", which is currently streaming on The Roku Channel, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, Vizio Watch Free+, Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, Sling Freestream, and more.
