The Platino Awards is scheduled to host its 10th edition in Madrid this April. The awards, which honor the world’s top Ibero-American audiovisual works and productions, will celebrate their 10th anniversary at Palacio Municipal IFEMA Madrid, marking the third consecutive year that the awards featuring the Hispanic and Portuguese star-system will be held at this location. "At their tenth anniversary, the Platino Awards will reflect on their past to move into the future. In the prior nine editions, works from at least 13 different countries were officially recognized," a recent press release states. "The upcoming event will proudly pay a tribute to nearly ten years of outstanding works by Hispanic and Portuguese speakers from different cultures while maintaining the awards’ commitment to new formats and innovation."
In the past nine years, the awards have shed light on cultural diversity by presenting the Best Ibero-American Feature Film Award to movies from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain and Mexico. Since the fourth edition, the Best TV Series Award went to shows from Argentina, Cuba and Spain. The Best Animated Film Award went to Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Peru and to Brazil, Chile and Spain for Best Documentary. The First Work Award went to productions from Guatemala, Paraguay and Venezuela.
The award ceremony served as a resource for Ibero-American star-system members and facilitated the discovery of new works across the Atlantic Ocean as a result of international production alliances among countries from different regions. These business ventures and network opportunities, which the event organizers have now arranged around the Platino Industria market, its diverse professional activities and networking opportunities are essential to the promotion of works both in Spanish and Portuguese, both of which are having a stronger presence at international festivals and reaching larger audiences.
The event held at Matadero Madrid, attended by the President of the larger Madrid Region and the Mayor of the City of Madrid, celebrated the outstanding careers of those who have been presented with the Ibero-American Honorary PLATINO Award in the past years, including Carmen Maura (2022), Diego Luna (2021), Raphael (2019), Adriana Barraza (2018), Edward James Olmos (2017), Ricardo Darín (2016), Antonio Banderas (2015) and Sonia Braga (2014). This award highlights the current and future impact and significance of our cultures and underscores the work done by some of our most relevant Ibero-American figures across the world and their passion to make their cultures known.
