Women directed 46% of animated shorts in France in 2023 but only 27% of feature films, up from 21% in 2013. At Annecy 2025, 48% of Mifa Pitch projects are led by women, yet just 17% of Official Feature Film directors are female.

Among the highlights is EverWonder Studio’s "American Prince: JFK Jr.," part of the distributor’s growing portfolio of documentaries on iconic public figures. On the scripted side, the lineup is led by the female-driven action thriller "The Assassin," a six-part series from Two Brothers Pictures.

The deal comprises six titles from Woodcut Media: "The Murder of Joanna Yeates," which launches on 22 April (1 x 90’); "The Crossbow Cannibal" (1 x 90’); "Krays: London’s Gangsters" (2 x 45’); "Murder in Concrete" (2 x 45’); "Confessions of a Female Serial Killer" (1 x 90’) and "Murdered or Missing?" (2 x 45’).

Based on the original story of writer Sin Un-yon, the story follows a female lawyer with outstanding skills who meets a married man who is a murder suspect and suddenly falls in a forbidden love.

A recent report by the European Audiovisual Observatory shows that women hold just 27% of roles in European TV and SVOD fiction production. Key creative fields like cinematography and composing remain at only 10% female. At the current pace, full gender parity won’t be reached until a couple of decades.
