The BBC is the only place in the UK that audiences can watch dubbed versions of the adventure story. It´s a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation, based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga series of the same name, which is the No.1 manga in the world with over 500 million copies sold and over 100 volumes published.
The title becomes the first Japanese film produced for streaming to be officially selected for the prestigious international film festival. The Amazon original film is directed, written, and starring by Takeshi Kitano.
The move strengthens the BBC Studios and U-NEXT partnership to offer a wide range of content across multiple genres to Japanese audiences. Earlier this year BBC Studios and U-NEXT renewed their partnership to include beloved children’s programmes like Sarah and Duck and Go Jetters as well as English language learning series Yakka Dee.
A report from Ampere Analysis revealed that Germany, Finland, Italy, the UK, France, Poland, and Spain which have seen a 3% to 9% increase in anime enjoyment in the past five years.
It combines the technical excellence of Japanese animation with Canadian creative richness. The studio has already received over 700 applications in just two months.
