The crime drama is commissioned by the Canal+ group and Studiocanal. The 8 x 52’ series follows the rise of an all-female gang run by two sisters, set in 1950s Singapore, a city of crime at the time, and the glamorous but lawless “Wild West” of Asia. "Red Butterfly" will be filmed in English and Chinese on location in Singapore and Malaysia.
The production of the eight-episode series is underway in association with Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, Lighthouse Pictures and Busy B Entertainment.
It will be called "The Better Sister" and is the adaptation of Alafair Burke’s novel follows two estranged sisters in the wake of a murder. Both Biel and Banks will also executive produce the series.
“A Small Light”, “Mike”, “Alaska Daily”, “The Company You Keep”, “Sons of Anarchy S1-7”, “Brothers and Sisters S1-5” are set to premiere this year on Alibi, Drama, Dave and UKTV Play in the UK.
The deals, brokered by Managing Director, Jonathan Ford, were made for “The Heiress and the Heist,” “ Confessions of a Crime Boss,” and “Scissor Sisters,” among other titles.
