A merger between the Indian unit of Sony and Zee Entertainment to create a US$10 billion TV enterprise will potentially hurt competition, the country's antitrust watchdog found in an initial review.
The collaboration will begin with 12-part series, "The Spice Trails: Latin America," produced in various settings across Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina.
The distributor closed deals with Al Jazeera, Asharq News and OSN for titles like "On Broadway", "Beirut Blast: The Story of Warehouse 12" and "They Say It Can’t Be Done".
The company signed the exclusive non-binding sheet deal, securing a merge between the operations in the region with linear networks, digital assets, production operations and program libraries, and will hand SPNI 52.93% of the business.
