According to Digital TV Research, pay TV subs will fall by 8 million from 2018 to 2029. However, 2018 included 17 million analog cable subscribers, which will drop to zero by 2027.
The data comes from a survey conducted by Nielsen consulting firm, published in January. Even though 60% of users consume it through cable or direct broadcast satellite, access to TV content is usually complimentary.
The US cable and satellite pay TV services are set to face subscription declines in the coming years as their remaining viewers increasingly shift to over-the-top streaming services, GlobalData said in its latest report.
