The awards will now be held 25th April, 2021, eight weeks later than originally planned. The decision follows Hollywood Film Academy's decision to cancel the 2021 Oscars. The date of the 2022 awards is currently under review.

The awards will now take place on the 25th of April to provide filmmakers more flexibility amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization also extended release date eligibility rules and submission deadlines.

Up to six statuettes may be awarded in the new category. For the music category, an original score must now consist of at least 60% original music, and 80% for sequels and franchise films. The Board of Governors discussed the changes via a virtual meeting.
