The number of original scripted TV series will grow significantly this year setting a new record, according to FX Networks’ Chairman, John Landgraf, who popularized the term “peak TV” to describe the explosion of new TV shows back in 2015.
Content has declined by 7% as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Broadcast, cable, and streaming totaled 493 last year, down from 532 in 2019, which represents a 7% decline.
Despite there being a 12.6% increase in viewership from 2019, it is expected to decrease by 4.9% and 7.2% in 2022. Over half of American consumers are limiting their time with media to avoid reading, watching, or hearing news about the pandemic.
