North America is set to drop below 50% of global subscription revenues generated by subscription OTT services, Ampere Analysis said in its latest report.

This week, Netflix announced its plans to further crackdown on password sharing outside of the subscriber’s own households, a move that, according to Ampere Analysis, could still drive a long-term positive revenue impact for the streamer.

Netflix decided to drop monthly subscription pricing in more than 100 territories globally, and more than 5% of its 200 million subscribers will see a reduction in the price they pay for the service, according to Ampere Analysis.

Global OTT subscriptions have surpassed 1.5 billion, little more than two years after exceeding 1 billion subscriptions in the first half of 2020, Ampere Analysis revealed in its latest report.

Despite what has been a challenging past couple of years for the industry as it fends off the ever-increasing challenge of streaming providers, the worldwide TV market actually grew in the second quarter of 2020, according to Ampere Analysis.
