Sony Pictures Television announced plans to launch Sony Movies, a new destination for Sony Pictures’ amazing array of film content in Latin America. Sony Movies will offer viewers a wide selection of classic and hit movies from Sony Pictures’ extensive library, such as installments from various popular franchises including "Spider-Man" (2002), "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), "Venom" (2018), "Men in Black" (1997) and "Ghostbusters" (1984), to name a few. Sony Movies joins SPT’s portfolio of channels in Latin America, including Sony Channel, home to the best medical dramas like SPT’s "The Good Doctor" and AXN, the destination for popular crime dramas including SPT’s latest hit acquisition "Candice Renoir." Sony Movies is expected to launch in Spring 2022.
“As we have closely examined viewership patterns in the region, we have seen a clear opening in the market. We’re able to tap into our robust library of content for this Pay-TV channel to deliver what operators need to satisfy their subscribers,” said John Rossiter, EVP, Distribution & Networks, Latin America, Sony Pictures Entertainment. “With Sony Movies, we are responding to viewer demand for Sony Pictures’ premium theatrical content, strengthening our offerings and supporting our longstanding affiliate partners, which remains a priority for us.”
The linear channel, which will be home to Sony Pictures’ unparalleled collection of films, will be distributed by Ole Distribution throughout the region, including Brazil. “Thanks to the great demand for films in our region, at Ole Distribution, we continue to make great efforts to satisfy the needs of the audience. ‘Sony Movies’ was created especially for fans of Hollywood movies, bringing a unique catalog of high-quality feature films directly to viewers. It is an honor for Ole Distribution to formally welcome ‘Sony Movies’ to our prestigious portfolio of channels in Latin America,” said Juan Carlos Urdaneta, President of Ole Distribution.
