Popular preschool series rolls out across major PBS member stations.

The production sector generated £3.6 billion in 2023, but this topline number hides deeper concerns. Content investment by PSBs—still the backbone of original UK programming—declined last year. While SVOD services like Netflix and Prime Video continue to invest in UK content, their focus is narrow: mostly high-end drama and some premium factual. In 2023, there were just 30 UK SVOD commissions compared to nearly 1,400 from PSBs.

"Ages of Ice" will be broadcast in the US on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2026. The series is co-commissioned by the ABC and PBS from US, produced by Northern Pictures, with production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW, and produced in association with and distributed internationally by ITV Studios.

Meanwhile, PBS´s Masterpiece signs TV rights for the US and English-speaking Canada. Also confirmed is a digital rights deal with CBC Gem, alongside acquisitions in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe.

It was acquired by the US public broadcaster PBS, which has also purchased the rights for Series 1 in North America. Both Series 1 and 2 have also been sold to SBS Food Australia and AMC Networks Central & Northern Europe for broadcast in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, and Romania. Additionally, Series 1 (10 x 60’) has been licensed to HRT Croatian TV.
