“Ángela,” the gripping psychological thriller produced by Buendía Estudios Bizkaia in collaboration with Atresmedia, has emerged as one of the most successful international Spanish-language dramas of 2025. According to Atresmedia, the series has rapidly become the most-watched non-English language title in more than 10 countries and is now streaming across more than 40 global markets. After premiering on Atresplayer Spain and airing in prime time on Antena 3, the six-part series has secured a commanding position on international streaming charts, reaching number one in countries including Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Switzerland.

The momentum continues beyond Europe. “Ángela” is currently climbing the charts in the United States, Canada, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom, where it ranks among the top 10 non-English language series. The show has also gained strong traction in Latin America and Brazil since its summer release and is approaching the top of the rankings in markets like Germany, Sweden, Slovenia, Croatia, Norway, and Iceland.

An adaptation of the 2021 British drama “Angela Black,” the Spanish version has received wide acclaim from critics and viewers alike. Starring Verónica Sánchez—who won the Cygnus Award for Best Actress for her performance—the cast also includes Daniel Grao, Jaime Zatarain, Lucía Jiménez, Ane Gabarain, María Isabel Díaz Lago, Iván Marcos, and young actresses Maia Zaitegui and Sua Díez. The series is directed by Tito López-Amado and written by Sara Cano and Paula Fabra, with Jorge Blas as script analyst.

“Ángela” tells the story of a woman trapped in an abusive marriage, whose life unravels as she uncovers a web of manipulation and control. Set against a backdrop of psychological tension, the story takes viewers through twists that blur the line between perception and reality. As described by Atresmedia, the series is “addictive,” “striking,” and “the perfect thriller,” with its tightly plotted episodes and masterful performances drawing strong praise.

Atresmedia Sales, the international distributor of the series, will present “Ángela” at Mipcom 2025 in Cannes, as the company continues to grow its profile as a global player in Spanish-language content distribution.

The success of “Ángela” adds to Atresmedia’s growing roster of internationally recognized titles including “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”), “Veneno,” “Locked Up” (“Vis a Vis”), “Alba,” and “The Gypsy Bride” (“La Novia Gitana”). According to the company, its strategic focus on quality storytelling and strong international partnerships has turned Atresmedia’s fiction catalogue into a globally respected brand.
