"The Summit"
Content powerhouse Banijay Entertainment announced that Banijay Productions Germany will produce the eighth international version of adventure reality format "The Summit," for Prime Video. Originally created by Endemol Shine Australia and Nine Network, the latest version—unveiled today at Prime Video Presents in Germany—will be available exclusively on Prime Video, launching in Q3 this year.
The German version will feature 12 celebrities who must climb a New Zealand mountain peak while carrying backpacks filled equally with 1 million euros—the largest possible cash prize in the history of German reality TV. Confirmed cast members include actor and singer Felix von Jascheroff; model, actor and DJ Giulia Siegel; model and reality TV star Cecilia Asoro; and former footballer Ansgar Brinkmann. With adventure, reality, and even some comedic moments, the contestants must overcome a series of physical and moral challenges to reach the summit and claim their reward—balancing trust and strategy to stay in the game.
"The Summit" was recently nominated in the Short-Form Series category at the 2024 International Emmy Awards and was highlighted as a ‘Format to Watch’ in this year’s Tracking the Giants report from K7 Media.
Katrin Stefanović, Managing Director at Banijay Productions Germany, praised the format: "‘The Summit’ has been on our radar for some time, as we knew it would be a great fit for the German market. Get ready for high-stakes drama, intense strategy, and unforgettable adventure, set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes, as our dynamic cast of celebrities faces one of their toughest challenges yet,” commented.
Meanwhile, Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer, Operations, Banijay Entertainment, highlighted that the format has the ability to adapt to local audiences: "The ability of ‘The Summit’ to resonate with platforms and streamers around the world is testament to the format’s global appeal and its adaptability for local audiences. As a group, we collaborate and leverage our deep expertise in producing the show across diverse markets, and I’m confident Banijay Productions Germany’s adaptation will be a standout version,” expressed.
