BBC Studios revamps its Documentary Unit management

BBC Studios has appointed Georgia Moseley as Head of the Documentary Unit and Katharine Patrick as Senior Creative Director. The news was confirmed by Kate Ward, Managing Director, Factual Productions. “In Georgia and Katharine we have found a partnership of two outstanding creative leaders, defined by their passion for documentary in all its forms, and fuelled by a shared desire to deliver an ambitious, impactful and contemporary Documentary Unit for BBC Studios," Ward said. "Along with Kirsty and Joe they form a powerhouse creative team and we could not be more thrilled to have them all with us at BBC Studios.’

Working in partnership, Georgia and Katharine will lead the new look BBC Studios Documentary Unit and will work closely with existing editorial leads and Creative Directors Kirsty Cunningham and Joe Mather. Working alongside each other, Moseley and Patrick will be responsible for delivering both transformational business growth and a broad creative slate, with the ambition of delivering documentary storytelling in all its forms from institutional access and compelling human stories, observational singles and series, to bold and innovative constructed and popular factual formats.  The documentary unit has teams across bases in London, Salford and Cardiff.

Currently the Creative Director of  BBC Studios’ Factual Podcast Unit, Georgia Moseley has extensive experience in documentaries - across television, podcasts and digital with hits like "Stay Free: The Story of the Clash," presented by Chuck D (Spotify), I Am Not Nicholas (Audible), Believe in Magic (BBC), Mother, Neighbour, Russian Spy with Rosamund Pike (Audible), Vishal (BBC) and History’s Secrets Heroes (BBC). In a diverse career at the BBC Georgia has a track record of delivering business growth and scaling new operational units from podcasts to digital whilst delivering award-winning series and providing outstanding editorial and cultural leadership across innovative and diverse teams. As Head of Unit, Georgia will be responsible for delivering the growth and management of the documentary business and will report to Kate Ward, Managing Director, Factual Production.

Patrick joins BBC Studios from Wonderhood Studios where she is Head of Factual. She will be tasked with delivering the editorial and creative strategy for the documentary unit, including overseeing development, content strategy and driving new business. Patrick is a BAFTA and Grierson nominated Executive Producer and former Head of Development in multiple companies including Minnow and Nutopia, with an outstanding track record in securing and delivering programmes that encompass complex access, whether to British institutions, including the British Royal Family, the Ministry of Defence, the NHS and the Police as well as experience in popular factual and documentary formats.  As Head of Factual at Wonderhood, she executive produced the BAFTA-nominated Baby Surgeons (Channel 4), and the three-part premium documentary series, Evacuation, with top-to-toe access to the British military about the Evacuation of Kabul and contributed to overseeing a slate of programming from development to delivery working with broadcasters in the UK and US.

Moseley and Patrick join the Documentary Unit, which has a track record in a range of output delivered by Kirsty Cunningham and Joe Mather. Creative Director, Cunningham has overseen delivery of a slate of documentaries including the Bafta and Grierson winner "Grenfell: The Untold Story" for Channel 4, "Lion: The Rise and Fall of the Marsh Pride" for BBC Two, "Michael X: Hustler, Revolutionary, Outlaw" for Sky, as well as the fourth series of The Met which is currently transmitting on BBC One. Mather (Creative Director) leading a range of output from deep access and investigative documentary, including Undercover Police: Hunting Paedophiles (Channel4) and  "The Murder of Jill Dando" for BBC One and popular factual formats including RTS and BAFTA nominated Scam Interceptors for BBC One. The Documentary Unit has several other productions for a range of broadcasters and streamers yet to be announced.
